This month is National Smile Month. Did you know that some adults only brush their teeth for less than a minute a day, and children as young as 12 are already suffering from tooth decay? We are passionate about oral health. After-all, it takes 43 muscles to frown but only 17 to smile!
A smile is more important than you think. Did you know that 61% of us have been attracted to someone by their smile alone? And two thirds of us have less respect for a boss with bad oral hygiene – lets admit it who would want to sit in a meeting with someone who has bad oral health?!
Oral health doesn’t just affect your teeth. Research shows that bad oral health can lead to other health problems including dementia, heart attacks, strokes, complications during pregnancy and male sexual health problems. What’s more scary is that not many people know these links exist!
Lets try to make a difference to improve our oral health today. Just follow these simple steps and you can start to make a difference:
-
Brush for two minutes, twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste
-
Cut down on how often you consume sugary foods and drinks
-
Visit the dentist regularly, or as often as they recommend
Let’s be honest with ourselves, these principles aren’t hard to follow, but people still don’t do these basic things! That’s why the national smile month message in improving oral health is so important. It gives everyone a chance, no matter what condition their teeth are in, to get involved and improve theirs and others oral health.
